It takes a while for a newly opened restaurant to go down the shitter, but apparently, this restaurant had plains to be there from the get go. The Magic Restroom Café is the nation’s first toilet, bathroom, and human-bodily-function-themed eatery. Every menu item, as well as the décor focuses on that bathroom experience.
Hungry customers hoping to experience restroom oriented dining will sit on stools with toilet seat covers as lids, as well as eat from plates that are shaped like mini toilet bowls, with place mates with bathroom tile patterns. Food items have names like “golden poop rice,” “black poop,” “smells like poop,” and “bloody number two,” translated out of restroom jargon and into restaurant lingo, these menu items would be fried rice, a chocolate sundae, braised pork over rice, or a vanilla-strawberry sundae, respectively. The Huffington Post mentions that the Stinky Tofu is one of the most appropriate dishes to order, in this new defecation themed restaurant.
The newbie restaurant owner YoYo Li considered the popularity of the Modern Toilet chain restaurant in China and Taiwan, and decided to open a toilet themed restaurant in Los Angeles. As of now, customers love the décor and are reviewing it positively. The food however is receiving a 3 out of 5 stars on yelp, with some of the typical complaints being that the food was either cold or that the service was slow. While the grand opening is yet to come, these two points can definitely improve so that customers can enjoy their bowl of noodles while sitting on the bowl. Officially the restaurant will open at the end of this month.
Other interesting restaurants with weird themes include an “in flight experience” restaurant that simulates air travel, another that is set in a prison and staffed with inmates. Another Singaporean restaurant is hospital themed with wheelchairs and hospital beds that have been converted into haute seating. An interesting ‘Christian Café’ in Tokyo has elements of a Catholic cathedral with statues of the holy virgin and soft candle lighting in sunken alcoves. Diners can be inspired by sacred music played on organs while eating Japanese tapas called izakaya. The menu card is coffin shaped in case diners have missed the point.
Tokyo again comes into the weird diners’ experience with their cat cafes. With apartments restricting pets around Tokyo, cat cafes have become a popular choice for cat lovers who cant have pets in their residence. Patrons can pet any of the eight cats freely enjoying their spot, while having delicious teas and snacks.
