Sidley Austin LLP Grabs a Winner from Weil

Among the squad of lateral moves Sidley Austin LLP has taken from Weil Gotshall & Manges includes the latest, S. Scott Parel, a corporate and transactional lawyer of broad experience. Following eight of his colleagues, he is joining the firm in their Dallas office.

“We are extremely pleased to further expand our Private Equity and M&A practices with a lawyer of Scott’s caliber,” said Larry Barden, vice-chair of Sidley’s Management Committee. “He has built an impressive practice representing several leading private equity sponsors. His strengths complement well those of our existing team of lawyers focused on serving private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies in sophisticated M&A and corporate matters. We welcome him to Sidley.”

Parel was ranked in Chambers USA 2012 leading Corporate / M&A Lawyer in Texas, and has earned that place through a broad and intense range of experience in complex corporate matters, through representing private and pension fund sponsors, in areas of leveraged acquisitions, divestures, and so forth. He has also done substantial work as co-chair of Weil’s Pro Bono and Professional Development committees, and has a rich practice of pro bono work.

“Scott is an excellent addition to our outstanding team of private equity lawyers,” said Carter Phillips, chair of Sidley’s Executive Committee. “He brings deep experience in guiding private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies through the complexities relating to M&A activity, investments and myriad other issues. We are delighted to welcome him to our Private Equity practice, which continues to be an area of strategic growth for us.”

Sidley’s Dallas office is now nearly 60 strong, since their opening in 1996, and with their acquisition of a team set of former Weil Gotshall employees, is all the stronger. This strengthens their standing in the Texas area, where they have opened another office in 2012 in Houston, which is now about 37 strong.
