Miley Cyrus was forced to do some serious thinking when interviewed by Matt Lauer of Today. According to E!, Lauer didn’t let her get away with flashing her tongue out. He asked her some serious and direct questions and she seemed to handle them like a pro. She seemed to believe that her recent shenanigans are the exact type of publicity she needs for through the roof sales of her new album Bangerz. When asked about the recent, controversial attention she’s been bombarded with she confessed, “ . . . it’s kind of what I want. I’m an artist, so I’m hoping that I get a little attention or my record sales might be a little sketch.” Miley went on to say, “I don’t ever really plan to offend people, but sometimes that just happens because I think people, they’re not open to what they don’t understand, but that’s why when I’m singing for my fans, because they’re all really young, they understand what I’m doing.” That comment may raise a few eyebrows since they most certainly do not understand her recent sexual behavior and revealing near-naked photos.
He went on to ask her about her recent Twitter battle with singer Sinead O’Connor to which Miley made clear she was and always will be a fan of, despite their on-going disagreement. “I’m a big fan of hers, so it doesn’t really matter,” she told Today. She even went on to share some words of wisdom with, “I think it’s only hard if you’re trying to be something you’re not. Being who you are is really easy if you’re really true to that.” It makes sense, but her actions seem to imply that she’s perhaps a bit unstable, especially for her young fans since they are in a position to be easily influenced by everything Miley does, good or not so good.
Twenty-year-old Miley may be in a sexual phase of her life right now, but when she tried to attack Matt Lauer by joking that sex starts to slow down at forty, he didn’t let it hold him back and made it clear that he was over forty. It wasn’t such a great joke after all. Infamy may surround her for now, but she maintained that, “For me, the most important thing is being a really good person, and that doesn’t depend on what you do onstage. That depends on how you treat people when you’re offstage, and I know how I treat people, so I’m not really too worried about it.” Only time will tell whether more infamy will follow her and if she will ever be able to shrug it off as easily as she appeared to answer Lauer’s questions.
