Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is again teaming up with Warner Bros. The Hollywood giant and the best selling author have come together to make another hit movie. Harry Potter wont be in this drama, but the film features witches and wizards that are from the Hogwarts world. The ‘textbook’ that students study from at Hogwarts, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,’ will showcase the adventures and stories that exist in Harry Potter’s world. Rowling comments, “The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films.”
The main protagonist, fictitious author Newt Scamander will have his tale set in a time 70 years before Harry Potter’s birth, so it will be a different story for a different time, and not at all upset the Potter universe’s timeline. Author Rowling will manage the screenplay for “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them,” which according to Warner Bros. will be the first in the new franchise. Kevin Tsujihara, CEO of Warner Bros. comments, “We know that audiences will be as excited as we are to see what her brilliant and boundless imagination conjures up for us.”
The new “Fantastic Beasts” franchise will also have a video game developed and merchandise which will all be based on the Hogwarts textbook. In addition to this deal Warner Bros. will also have the rights to distribute a TV adaptation of “The Casual Vacancy,” which Rowling’s adult novel, according to the LA Times. The Harry Potter franchise has been very profitable for Warner Bros. J.K. Rowling is known for authoring the world famous Harry Potter series. The Potter books have sold more than 400 million copies and are the best-selling book series in history. They have been made into films that are the highest grossing films in history as well. Rowling herself had creative control and full approval as producer of the scripts and films. The rags to riches story of her life amazes fans that then she was struggling on state benefits while writing at night while now she is a world famous author, a influential philanthropist, and one of the most influential women in the world. From that place of struggling nights, her personal wealth today is just under 1 billion. J.K. Rowling supports charities such as Comic Relief, One Parent Families, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain and Lumos, a charity for children. Fans of the Potter universe will be pleased to see more to come in the new franchise.
