Vinson & Elkins Grabs Broadly Experienced Partner

Vinson & Elkins LLP grabbed a man with wide-ranging experience from Weil, Gotshal & Manges, where for 15 years he’s practiced in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, general corporate counseling, and governance, with focuses ranging from technology, retail, consumer projects, media, manufacturing, and energy and infrastructure. Michael Saslaw will join them in their Dallas office. Indeed, the breadth of his focus, which he began to accumulate after getting his J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1982, especially when he diversified his work during his time at Weil, made him of high interest to V&E.

“We’ve known and admired Mike for many years and his practice is perfectly aligned with our firm,” said V&E Managing Partner Scott Wulfe. “His deep Texas roots and longstanding relationships with a number of V&E clients make this an excellent fit for everyone involved. We couldn’t be happier that Mike decided to join our team.”

Saslaw represented EQT Partners in its $365 million acquisition of Synagro Technologies, and again in its $270 million acquisition of Restaurant Technologies; he advised Trimble Navigation, a GPS systems developer, on its $335 million purchase of TMW Systems; he represented Abraaj Capital in their acquisition of 50 percent interest in Viking International; and he has advised and represented plenty of other big-scale companies in their endeavors.

“Mike’s exceptional reputation as a go-to advisor for companies and private equity firms adds depth to our Dallas corporate team,” said Billy Young, co-managing partner of V&E’s Dallas office and head of the firm’s Finance Practice Group. “His experience and impressive track record will be invaluable as we continue to bolster our capabilities in these areas to better serve our clients across the world.”

For how impressed V&E is with Saslaw, he seems equally enthusiastic to join the company, which ranks as one of The American Lawyer’s top 10 firms nationwide.

“The ability to collaborate with and work alongside such a strong group of talented colleagues is what really attracted me to the firm,” Saslaw said. “V&E has world-class attorneys across the board.”
