Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas Take Marital Break

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are taking a break. There’s been no filing of divorce or legal separation, but the power couple, who married in 2000, despite managing the “through sickness and in health” bit, after Douglas was treated for cancer in 2010, and Zeta was treated for bipolar II disorder in 2011, have finally felt the stress of such travails, and are spending some time apart.

“They’re taking a break,” say sources. And People magazine has a full story of their difficulties in the Aug. 30 issue of their magazine.

Specifically, their rep said, “Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage,” but he declined further comment, as reported by the Huffington Post.

Zeta-Jones sought further treatment for her bipolar in April 2013, and thereafter decided to spend time apart from Douglas after he returned from the Cannes Film Festival. Together, the couple have two children, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10.

“They want the best for their kids, no matter what happens,” said a family friend to People.

Whether recourse to legal separation and divorce manifests itself, or whether the couple merely needs to find their bearings while they bear through their own physical and mental illnesses, remains to be seen.
