Wentworth Miller Comes Out of the Closet

Prison Break star Wentworth Miller declined an invite to a film festival in St. Petersburg, as he comments that he is gay, and disapproves of the Russian government’s crackdown on homosexuals, according to USA Today.

Miller had been invited as a guest of honor at the festival, but he said, “As a gay man, I must decline.“ The 41 year old actor, whose sexual orientation was under scrutiny in the past, came out on Wednesday. His letter was posted on GLAAD’s website and thanks the organizers of the film festival for their invitation. He notes, “I am deeply troubled by the current attitude towards gay men and women by the Russian government.”

Wentworth Miller announced that he was gay in support of Russia’s gay and lesbian population, who are suffering as their government condemns and cracks down on homosexuals. New laws fine gay and lesbian people for “spreading propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations” to minors. Gay pride rallies are banned, and adoption of children is also banned by same sex couples. Any tourists that are even suspected of being gay can be detained for 15 days.  This is definitely a pertinent world issue, as the entire world is concerned with how Russia will prepare to host the 2014 Winter Olympics.
