David Cassidy Lands a Felony for DWI

The stars continue to be troubled, fighting the sorts of demons that plague fame and fortune. This was the case of “Partridge Family” star David Cassidy who as TMZ reported was arrested for driving while intoxicated early Wednesday morning.

When stopped for a sobriety test, Schodack Police Officer Tom Jones says the celebrity quipped “What’s up, pussycat,” in reference to singer Tom Jones’s song, “What’s New Pussycat.” He was, nevertheless, not disrespectful to the officer, who said he “cooperated and was a gentleman.”

Cassidy was arrested for having a .10 percent blood alcohol level, which is above the .08 level of New York, where he was arrested. He was taken to Rensselaer County Jail and release on $2,500 bail.

His stepmother, Singer Shirley Jones, told TMZ that Cassidy is “a troubled man who has demons he’s been struggling to conquer,” a situation entirely normal for stars and celebrities, if not for much the rest of us. In 2012 Cassidy was arrested when he failed a sobriety test in Florida at .14 blood alcohol content, at which point he admitted to also having taken a Vicodin pill three hours earlier.

Because of the prior arrest, this DUI counted as a felony. If he persists, it could lead to more severe penalties.
