Weiner Faces Fresh Sex Chat Scandal

There is some question whether Anthony Weiner is right for New York City mayor, truly representative of the city, or whether his bid for office is more of a side show. After resigning from Congress in June 2011 for engaging in sexual relationships with half a dozen women on the internet – he sent pornographic selfies and raunchy text – he decided to straighten things out with his wife before finally running for New York City mayor. Only thing is, old habits die hard, and it appears that Weiner has been sexting and sending naughty selfies under the name “Carlos Danger,” a pseudonym whose business has surfaced under the tasteless exposé blog, TheDirty.com.

It appears that he has sent pornographic selfies as late as last summer, after his moment of truth with Congress when he resigned. Yet despite this latest revelation, he is still running for office, he has not chosen to withdraw.

The New York Times has urged him to quit, saying he “should take his marital troubles and personal compulsions out of the public eye, away from cameras, off the Web and out of the race for Mayor of New York City.”

It seems his rivals agree, with Public Advocate Bill de Blasio saying “Enough is enough. The sideshows of this election have gotten in the way of the debate we should be having about the future of this city.”

“I said that other texts and photos were likely to come out, and they have today,” Weiner said in a statement, as if he weren’t surprised or unsettled by this. “As I have said in the past, these things that I did were wrong and hurtful to my wife and caused us to go through challenges in our marriage that extended past my resignation from Congress. While some things that have been posted today are true and some are not, there is no question that what I did was wrong. This behavior is behind me.”

Whether the behavior is truly behind him is a matter of dispute. If he still was at in in the summer of 2012, after his humiliation in Congress in 2011, who’s to say he has mastered his bad habit and brought it out of the public eye? With such a personal life going on, it might distract him and the city from his public duties.

“I’m deeply flawed” he allegedly said in a personal confession to his online mistress. That being so, is a a good pick for office?
