As Michael Jackson’s family continues their negligence lawsuit against concert promoter AEG Live LLC, the deceased singer’s eldest son is expected to testify today. Prince Michael Jackson, 16, will be the first of the pop-star’s children to testify as part of the case.
The lawsuit alleges that, while preparing for an upcoming tour, AEG hired the doctor that prescribed Jackson with an overdose of the anesthetic propofol, which ultimately led to his death. That doctor, Conrad Murray, was ultimately convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Court documents suggest that Murray was ultimately accountable to AEG, and that his massive debts meant that he was more interested in receiving his salary than looking out for the best interests of his patient.
The legal team, led by Brian Panish, is also expected to call TJ Jackson, the legal co-guardian of the children onto the stand, as well as TJ’s brother Taj. Prince Jackson, along with his younger siblings Paris and Blanket, are listed as plaintiffs in the negligence case filed by Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother and co-guardian of the children.
AEG has denied any wrong doing related to Jackson’s death, and denies hiring Murray.
Speaking outside of the courtroom today, Panish spoke to the Daily News about Prince Michael’s approaching testimony, saying “This trial is about people, and he’s suffered greatly. He’s a real person. This is about family.”
