Radio Co-Hosts Commit Suicide in “Pursuit of Happiness”

The New York Daily News made an exclusive report today on an incident that emphasizes why it is dangerous to compare your life with that of anybody else, and why it is difficult to accept advice on your life.

Why do I say this? The couple mentioned in the article, who committed suicide together, were co-hosts of a radio show titled “Pursuit of Happiness” and once a month they gave advice to people on how to get along with their lives. Considering that they were unable to handle life themselves, and made a horribly stupid decision about their own lives, it seems certain that either they did not practice what they preached, or they had no clue about what they were doing.

Or, maybe concluding that they were inept might be a mistake except that it’s difficult to support suicide as anything more than defeatist. They were not known to have had any disabling illnesses.

At least neighbors reported to the NY Daily News that the couple was always respectable, humble, and helpful. Not the kind of people you would expect to commit coordinated suicide using plastic bags filled with helium.

However, one former neighbor, Kevin Ray, told the NY Daily News that Rosen and Littig, the couple who committed suicide, was the reason why Ray and his wife left the building 18 years ago.

At the time, complains Ray, Littig, who was also a part-time drummer, would start practicing at odd hours, and would “fly into these crazy rages and scream like a crazed animal …” However, that was behavior exhibited close to two decades ago.

According to reports, Rosen was a psychotherapist and Littig was a motivational speaker and musician. The couple, who had died close to a week before they were found, left behind suicide notes. In his note Littig said that he was unable to watch his wife suffer any more.

The police believes Littig’s wife, who was a psychotherapist, had psychological problems.
