Two Notable Events at the Billboard Music Awards: Booed Bieber, Miguel Attacks a Fan

The Billboard Music Awards Sunday went as you might expect at such an event, but two incidents stand out as noteworthy. First, when Cee Lo called out Justin Bieber to receive the honor of the first ever Milestone award, the fans vigorously booed the hapless young pop wunderkind. You know, it was bad enough to make some of us start to feel a little compassion for the guy. He himself seemed a bit disaffected by the loud choruses of boos, but nevertheless took a moment to thank Jesus Christ and otherwise accept the honor he received. Not that Selena Gomez had his back; it seems she didn’t stand when Bieber, her (ex-?)boyfriend was called up to the stage for the Top Male Artist Award.

Meanwhile, singer Miguel managed to drop kick a couple fans while miscalculating a long-jump during the show. As happens nowadays, his gaffe become an instant GIF and went viral.

“Well, I think it’s kind of clear what happened,” he said afterwards, after talking with the fan he accidentally attacked, who held an ice pack to her arm. “But I’m very happy to bring my new friend, Khyati, we just met. Unfortunately we did not meet under the best circumstance, but I think we’re okay.”

Her response to being attacked during his song, “Adorn”? “I Adorn him.” Well that’s sweet: no law suits necessary.
