Just because your legal professor is offering to provide academic assistance, it doesn’t mean that they are making sexual advances towards you. Here is one other quick tip that might help you out. If you are failing a class in law school, this doesn’t mean that you should threaten your professors with racially charged and violent letters and photographs. One student at the University of Connecticut School of Law apparently did not know these things, and was recently arrested for harassing her professors with racist, anti-Semitic, and violent messages.
UConn Law student Anya Bargh was arrested earlier this week and charged with harassment and breach of peace as part of the Hartford Police department’s investigation into her recent erratic and somewhat violent behavior. Police initially investigated Bargh after she sent an unusual email to the student bar association regarding the school’s search for a new dean. According to WFSB News, the email read, in part, “Let’s celebrate diversity by having the next dean NOT be Jewish.”
The student group that received the email tipped off school officials, who then notified the Hartford Police Department. Bargh sent further disparaging emails to the group, all of which were forwarded to both faculty and authorities.
Upon investigating Bargh, the police discovered one of her two Flickr accounts. (Flickr is a social media service through which users can post and share photographs.) Bargh’s account featured dolls posed in graphic sexual positions, mutilated with fake blood and entrails, and several messages naming UConn law professors by name. One message directed at a professor said, “I hate you so much I would like to see you butchered.”
As part of the investigation, authorities also determined that Bargh had several encounters with the three professors she named in her Flickr messages, each of whom she had filed a complaint against. The professors had given Bargh a bad grade in their class, and Bargh responded by filing complaints against them, and in one case, mistook the professor’s offer of academic assistance for a sexual advance.
Bargh was arrested this week by Hartford Police.
WFSB interviewed several UConn Law School students who condemned Bargh’s behavior.
“You can’t blame your academic struggles on other people and take shots at professors,” said Christie Jean. “She’s clearly unfit for society really.”
“I can’t believe that, especially as a law student,” law student Andraya Pulaski said. “No. 1, you think you’re supposed to interact with people on a personal level, and two, you probably shouldn’t be saying those things. They’re really disturbing.”
