“Jack the Giant Slayer” to Lose Close to $140 Million

In our entertainment news today, we take a look at one of the movies currently showing in theaters across the country, Jack the Giant Slayer. The movie Jack the Giant Slayer is facing a major financial hit, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The movie has been running in theaters for four weeks and is on track to lose anywhere from $125 million to $140 million.

The movie stars Nicholas Hoult and Ewan McGregor. The money lost would be for the studio Warner Bros. and financial partner Legendary Pictures. If the movie loses that much money, it would fall in the same category as Universal’s 2012 film Battleship and Disney’s John Carter.

It is estimated that the movie will top out at $65 million in the United States and $140 million internationally. This would mean that the movie would total just $200 million across the globe. There was a production budget of $200 million and an international marketing budget of $100 million.

A division of Warner Bros., New Line, was hoping that the film experienced strong performance across the globe that was similar to that of the Clash of the Titans films. The movie has not been able to compete with  Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful and Paramount’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
