Reed Smith Names Edward Estrada Managing Partner in New York Office

The law firm of Reed Smith has announced that it has appointed a new managing partner for its office in New York, according to The New York Law Journal. The appointee is Edward Estrada. Estrada noted that he is planning to recruit laterals in an aggressive manner in the private equity and corporate practices.

The former managing partner of the firm’s office in New York, Jordan Siev, is now the co-head of the firm’s U.S. commercial litigation group. Siev was the managing partner of the New York office since 2011. Estrada previously held the role of co-head of the commercial litigation group and used to be a member of the executive committee.

Estrada explained that he is meeting with recruiters to discover strong lateral partner and associate candidates throughout New York. He said that there are “a number of folks in the pipeline.” He added, “We have a lot of strength and a lot of demand from our clients” in the practice areas of private equity, corporate and financial services.

Estrada focuses his work on bankruptcy and hedge funds and commercial restructuring as a member of the firm’s financial industry group. His clients are represented in litigation, bankruptcy proceedings and restructurings and ADR. The New York branch of the firm opened in 1995 with six lawyers. There are 160 lawyers at the firm’s office in New York now.
