Demi Moore Seeks Spousal Support After Divorce with Ashton Kutcher

After 6 years of marriage, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore split, apparently because of Kutcher’s infidelity and general humiliation of his older wife. It nevertheless appeared to be a tepid divorce without much to talk about, and it almost seemed as if both of them were just going to go their separate ways and maybe hold on to some memories. But Thursday Demi filed for spousal support and attorney fees in a Los Angeles Superior Court.

Sure Ashton, 35, is making a lot more money than she. He made $24 million in a single season of Two and a Half Men. But Demi, 50, is herself more than rich enough to handle herself. Some people estimate she has $150 million. Why she should bother to wrangle for more is a curiosity for us less well-endowed wage-earners. What we know is that she is entitled to half of what Kutcher earned during their marriage.

“We all know that during their marriage, he probably made lots more money than her,” said Lisa Helfend Meyer, a senior partner at Meyer, Olson, Lowy, and Meyers, to E! News, “and if there is no prenup, she is entitled to 50 percent of whatever he accumulated during marriage. Under California law, whatever you acquire together, whether it is a dollar or a $100 million dollars, you split it in half.”

Whether any of this ultimately matters is another question, but it could at least make for some court drama — and drama is what we are paying them for.
