Mayer Brown Announces Two Major Additions in DC and New York Offices

The law firm of Mayer Brown announced via a press release that former Federal Communications Commission (FCC) official Angela Giancarlo has joined the law firm. Giancarlo will work in the Washington, DC office as a partner in the firm’s Government & Global Trade practice.

“Angela is highly respected throughout the communications industry for her in-depth knowledge of telecommunications regulatory and policy matters, and she is an important addition to the firm’s capabilities in the communications space,” said Duane Layton, a co-leader of Mayer Brown’s worldwide Government & Global Trade practice. “Her experience in both the public and private sectors—especially her extensive work with US and European telecommunications regulators—will be an invaluable asset to the firm’s global clients.”

The Commissioner of the FCC, Robert M. McDowell, said, “As my Chief of Staff, Angela played an indispensable role in developing and establishing communications technology policies that have benefited our nation’s communications consumers. I wish her every success as she transitions to this next step in her career.”

Giancarlo noted, “Especially appealing to me is the firm’s outstanding reputation in handling government matters for a broad range of global clients facing complex regulatory challenges. I look forward to combining my substantive experience and strategic counsel with the firm’s talented group of lawyers to help clients navigate the communications regulatory landscape.”

Giancarlo earned her J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University of America and received a BA from Trinity College in Washington, DC.

In other news from the firm, it was announced today that Lewis J. Greenwald has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner. Greenwald will be working in the Tax Transactions & Consulting practice.

“Lewis has more than 25 years of experience in advising clients, particularly US-based multinationals, on a wide range of international tax planning matters,” said Jason Bazar, a co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Tax Transactions & Consulting practice. “His deep understanding of international tax issues will further strengthen and expand our ability to serve the global tax needs of our clients.”

Greenwald said, “I am honored to be joining Mayer Brown. The firm’s global platform, preeminent tax practice and strong capabilities in related practice areas make it a perfect fit for the clients I serve and for me.”
