Top IP Litigators Join King & Spalding

Two top IP litigators, Kenneth Steinthal and Joseph Wetzel have left Greenberg Traurig to join King & Spalding. Kenneth Steinthal used to head the San Francisco office of Greenberg Traurig and has joined as a partner in King & Spalding. Wetzel was a counsel for media licensing and related intellectual property litigation. Both of them had been employed at Weil Gotshal & Manges, before they joined Greenberg Traurig. Steinthal had served as co-head of Weil Gotshal’s IP/media practice.

While Steinthal has a very high-profile international practice in IP rights, Wetzel, was a founding attorney of Greenberg Traurig’s San Francisco office, and has great experience in consumer class-action matters, IP/media licensing, copyright, patent, trademark, trade-secret and false advertising matters.

Donald F. Zimmer, Jr., managing partner of King & Spalding’s San Francisco office said, “Kenny and Joe provide additional depth and breadth to our IP practice, and we welcome them to our West Coast IP team.” He further said, “Kenny is an outstanding litigator whose great experience and skills – particularly in handling trials and appeals in the copyright and ‘new media’ space – will contribute greatly to our efforts in the Bay area, across the United States and internationally. Joe’s experience second-chairing and managing cases gives us valued strength in this important practice area. We expect to be adding to this group in San Francisco in the near future.”

With Steinthal and Wetzel, King & Spalding’s intellectual property team on the West Coast reached a headcount of 16 attorneys and patent agents including 6 partners.

Steinthal said: “King & Spalding has an internationally-recognized intellectual property practice and is a firm on the upswing in California. The opportunity to continue to develop my practice here and join a group of such talented lawyers was a natural decision for me.”
