Chrysler Announces Recalls of Trucks and SUVs

Chrysler has announced a recall that includes models from its full-size and midsize pickups and multiple SUV models. The recall is centered around a rear axle component that could cause the vehicle to lose control.

The recall involves 278,222 Ram 1500 pickup trucks between the model years of 2009 and 2012. Also in the recall are 2009 to 2011 Dodge Dakota pickup trucks and 2009 Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango SUVs.

Chrysler made a separate announcement, saying that it is recalling 4,278 Dodge Viper sports cars from model years 2003 and 2004. This recall stems from a problem with the circuit board that could stop the vehicle’s airbag from inflating correctly.

The recall of the trucks stems from a missing adhesive patch that could cause the rear axle pinion to loosen. The axle would lock “and cause a loss of vehicle control with little warning, increasing the likelihood of a crash,” according to Chrysler. They stressed that the issue is dangerous enough that it should not be ignored by vehicle owners.

The recent recalls by the company do not include the Ram truck that is a brand new model and released late in 2012. The 2013 Dodge Ram was named as the North American Truck of the Year at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Motor Trend also named it the Truck of the Year.
