Loeb & Loeb Adds William J. Kramer to Patent Practice

The law firm of Loeb & Loeb LLP announced via a press release on Monday morning that William J. Kramer has been added to the firm’s Patent Litigation and Counseling Practice as a partner for the firm’s Chicago office. Kramer joins Loeb & Loeb from Miller Mathias & Hull, also in Chicago. While there he worked as a partner and the head of the Computer Science Department. Prior to Miller Mathias & Hull, Kramer worked as a partner with Marshall, Gerstein & Borum LLP, where he was the head of the Electrical Group and Finance Committee.

Kramer is highly experienced in intellectual property law. Within that realm he has experience with litigation, opinion drafting, licensing and patent prosecution. Kramer’s specialties include cable television systems, computer software and cloud technologies. Kramer also comes with a background in business, which helps him when it comes to litigating business process patents. Kramer also has experience with infringement and invalidity opinions, right-to-use and patentability.

“Bill is an exceptional attorney with a depth of experience that will be a valuable addition to our growing patent practice in Chicago and our national IP platform,” Michael D. Beck said. Beck is the Chairman for Loeb & Loeb. “We welcome him and look forward to his many contributions.”

The Chair of Loeb & Loeb’s Patent Department, Mark E. Waddell, said the following about Kramer’s hire: “Bill’s advanced knowledge of a range of technology fields, together with his finance background and extensive experience with both litigation and prosecution matters, will be a great complement to our team and a great advantage for our patent clients.”

Kramer studied law at Northwestern University School of Law, earning his J.D. after serving as the Coordinating Executive Editor of the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology. Kramer earned his B.S. in Finance, with honors, from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. Kramer also earned a second bachelor’s degree, this one in Computer Science, at Northwestern University. Kramer belongs to the Intellectual Property Organization’s Software and Business Process Sub-Committee.

“Loeb has an excellent reputation in the IP space and I look forward to growing my practice at the firm and working with such an impressive group,” Kramer said.

The Patent Litigation and Counseling Practice at Loeb & Loeb represents clients across the globe regarding all problems with patents, patent prosecution and strategic counseling. The Loeb & Loeb patent team in the United States consists of 30 lawyers and professionals who have litigated infringement, enforceability of patents and the validity of patents in all fields of technology.
