Two women from Texas are filing a lawsuit following an invasive and humiliating ‘roadside boy cavity search’ by state troopers. The entire incident was captured on camera as well, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Kellie Helleson, a female trooper, can be seen aggressively searching the private areas of Angel Dobbs and her niece, Ashley Dobbs, as other vehicles pass them on the road.
The women said that the trooper used the same rubber glove for both of them and said they were pulled over by Helleson’s colleague David Farrell on State Highway 161 close to Irving. Farrell said that he saw one of the women throw a cigarette out of the window.
On the video, Farrell is heard asking the women about marijuana but he never found evidence of the drug in the car. Farrell then requested the search of the women after he said that they were ‘acting weird.’ The lawsuit against the troopers claim that he tried to ‘morph this situation into a DWI investigation.’
Angel Dobbs passed her roadside sobriety test and then the women were issued warnings for their littering. Angel then said that Helleson irritated an anal cyst she has when the search occurred. She claims she has suffered ‘severe and continuing pain and discomfort.’
The suit said: ‘Angel Dobbs was overwhelmed with emotion and a feeling of helplessness and reacted stating that Helleson had just violated her in a most horrific manner.’
The Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Steven McCraw, is also being sued by the women. The reason McCraw is being sued is that the women claim he ignored their complaints about ‘unlawful strip search, cavity searches and the like.’
Scott H. Palmer, the lawyer for the two women, said that the incident, which was recorded by one of the trooper’s dashboard cameras, was a roadway ‘sexual assault.’ Palmer noted that the Texas Rangers investigated the claims of his clients but did not take action against the troopers involved in the incident.
‘You can see what’s happening clearly,’ he told the Dallas Morning News. ‘No one’s ever seen the likes of this. We can’t let them get away with it.’
