Obama Expresses His Grief over Connecticut Shooting Deaths

The massacre of elementary schoolchildren in Connecticut has the entire nation grieving and left clueless about the direction our country is taking with mass killings and irrational killers hitting the streets with diabolical regularity.

The cowards are either shooting unarmed students, as in Virginia Tech, 2007, or shooting moviegoers from the dark, as in Colorado, or, as in this last case in Connecticut, killing little elementary schoolchildren indiscriminately. It’s so difficult to come to terms with such a reality. Needless to say, it is also difficult for the President of a grieving nation to accept the deaths of so many wonderful little children.

While attending a press conference on Saturday, President Obama seemed heartbroken, as he paused frequently to catch himself, wiped tears from the corners of his eyes, and said, “our hearts are broken today.” The White House has announced a presidential proclamation ordering U.S. flags flown at half-staff until the sunset of Dec 18.

Talking of the twenty “beautiful little kids between the ages of 5 and 10 years” whose lives were snuffed out by a lone gunman, the President grieved, “They had their entire lives ahead of them – birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own…”

The President added, “I know there’s not a parent in America who doesn’t feel the same overwhelming grief that I do.” The President reminded the nation, “We’ve endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years.”

We at the JDJournal, would also like to take this moment to tell our readers that we are feeling downright depressed even when writing about this event. It’s our job to write, but we can only pray that we do not have to write on issues like this – the death of innocent little children. No amount of condolences to the parents and kin of those who lost their children can erase or lessen the horror of what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton.

The gunman has been identified as one Adam Lanza, who began the shooting spree by shooting dead his mother at their home. Apparently, according to media reports, Adam’s mother Nancy Lanza was a collector of powerful guns, and had taught her children to shoot.
