Chadbourne & Parke Adds Two to International Arbitration Practice

On Monday, the law firm of Chadbourne & Parke announced via a press release that it has added to its international arbitration team by hiring Mark Beckett and Rachel Thorn as partners. The two will be working out of the firm’s office in New York.

Beckett worked as a partner in the New York office of Latham & Watkins LLP prior to joining Chadbourne & Parke. Thorn worked as a partner in Latham & Watkins office in Paris before joining her new firm. The international arbitration team at Chadbourne has been recognized as one of the best in the world by the Global Arbitration Review.

Beckett’s practice is centered on resolving disputes involving long term purchase agreements, project construction, acquisition and joint venture disputes, demand guarantees, state undertakings and corporate guarantees. Beckett has experience in arbitration involving the major international laws of ICC, LCIA, ICDR, ICSID and UNCITRAL.

Beckett is a member for the United States on the ICC International Court of Arbitration, is the Chairman of the Arbitration Committee of the U.S. Council for International Business and is a member of the U.S. rep organization of the ICC. Beckett also serves as a lecturer of law at Harvard Law School, where he teachers International Commercial Arbitration.

Thorn’s practice areas include public international law, international commercial arbitration and international litigation. Thorn’s expertise in those practice areas include the construction and energy industries. Thorn has worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Richard W. Goldberg, a United States District Judge at the United States Court of International Trade.

“We are very fortunate to add such high caliber partners to our international arbitration practice,” said Oliver J. Armas one of the leaders of the practice group. “Their significant experience across Europe, Asia and the Americas will complement and enhance our existing capabilities in emerging markets, and will help to support and reinforce our relationships in these regions.”

“This represents the addition of front line talent to what has already become a strong practice offering for our clients, with an experienced and deep bench,” added Chadbourne Managing Partner Andrew Giaccia. “We will continue to emphasize growth in this area in view of its synergies with our other key practices, including energy and infrastructure and our emerging markets profile.”

The addition of Beckett and Thorn add to the success of the firm over the past couple of years, specifically in the international arbitration area. The office in Dubai returned under the leadership of Jack Greenwald, who has 25 years of experience in UAE.
