Wendy Williams in Payment Dispute with Shoe Manufacturer

In a report from the New York Daily News, talk show host Wendy Williams has failed to pay a $419,000 bill due to a Chinese factory where her shoe line is manufactured. The failure to pay the bill has caused general unrest, protests and has caused a kidnapping as well.

Williams and her husband, Kevin Hunter, struck a deal with Max Harvest International Holdings, a small Chinese firm, to manufacture shoes for her shoe line called ‘Adorn.’ The deal was struck last year between the two sides. To date, the firm has produced over 12,400 shoes with Williams’ logo on them but the firm has not been paid yet. The employees and the owner of the factory have been demanding payment and are protesting against the firm and Wendy Williams.

The issues have become so serious that sources claim the owner of the factory kidnapped one of the managers and held him hostage for two weeks before he released him. The owners of the firm have left Hong Kong because of fears of retaliation. The lawyer for Williams, Staci Riordan, said that the issue with the bill is a misunderstanding..

“Things don’t work in China the way they work in the United States,” Riordan said. Riordan also said that Williams has been negotiating with the firm to reach a settlement. Riordan also noted that Williams will file a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court if an agreement is not reached.
