Turkey Trot 5K Race Recap

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving yesterday, I definitely did. My day involved some hanging around with my family, a stop at my favorite coffee spot, the Roasterie, catching up with my little brother and then dinner with my cousins and aunt and uncle.

The whole day started off with a bang at the Thanksgiving Day 5K Run & Family Stroll at the Sprint campus. For those of you not from KC (aka almost everyone…) Sprint has basically it’s own zip code south of the city and they hosted this 5K around the land that they have. We did the race last year and thought it would be a great way to start the day again this year.

My dad and I were ready to go!

My Dad, two of my cousins and my uncle all participated. We were pretty excited upon arrival with a celebrity siting: KC WOLF! Haha

As you all know I’ve been dealing with an IT band injury, so I figured I’d be dropping out early. However, I think the adrenaline got to me and I managed to run the whole thing! I wanted to pace my Dad to a PR so I chugged along in front of him to keep him going, and he kicked butt! There were tons of hills and it got pretty windy, but I loved the challenging course (haha compared to the Chicago lakefront).

Our only complaints about the race was the organization at the start line. They had paces set up for people to line up by, but it seemed that most people there weren’t racers and didn’t understand. We lined up at 10 min/miles and it was not only so crowded, but there were TONS of walkers in front of us! Hopefully they’ll be more organized last year?

When I got home it was time to ice my IT band… it was not too happy with me.

But definitely worth it! I just don’t think I’ll be running for a bit. My half marathon training is going so well…

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, I’ll be back on Sunday with my Best Body Bootcamp update!

Did you do any kind of family exercise on Thanksgiving?

Where is your hometown?

I'm originally from Kansas City, MO and I did my undergrad at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. I started this blog in August of 2011 because I needed a creative outlet and I wanted to write about my life in a way that other women could relate to and realize that they aren’t alone in many aspects of their lives.
