Kim Kardashian Plays at Being Peacemaker in the Gaza-Israel Conflict

On Friday, while key Israeli cities including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem were being targeted by Hamas rockets, and Israeli airstrikes razing Hamas military establishments in Gaza, Kim Kardashian made up her mind to drop two luscious bombs.

In her first tweet she declared, “Praying for everyone in Israel,” and before others could react properly, came her second tweet, “Praying for everyone in Palestine and across the world!”

Her efforts to play peacekeeper apparently backfired with followers expressing their resentment at her inexplicable intrusion into such a serious socio-political issue of international and historic magnitude.

Apprised of the opinion backlash by followers, Kim promptly withdrew the two tweets, and publicly apologized for them.

In her apology, she wrote, “I want to own up to and explain that earlier today I sent out two tweets about saying prayers for the people in Palestine and Israel and after hearing from my followers, I decided to take down the tweets because I realized that some people were offended and hurt by what I said, and for that I apologize.”

She also explained, “I should have pointed out my intentions behind these tweets when I posted them. The fact is that regardless of religion and political beliefs, there are countless innocent people involved who didn’t choose this, and I pray for all of them and also for a resolution. I also pray for all the other people around the world who are caught in similar crossfires.”

Communities of people on both sides of the conflict are suffering their own pains and rigors with the world under shadow of a repetition of the six day war; a situation where public comments are being made by heads of state and military, and a situation in which celebrities would hardly entangle themselves, unless committed enough to stick to their beliefs and opinions.

But Kim goes in and comes out, nonchalantly.
