Teacher Blames Sex with Student on Midlife Crisis

A 38-year-old teacher, Amie Neely, is facing a felony sexual assault charge for having sex with a 16-year-old student. Neely was found by her husband, who used the GPS on her cell phone to discover his wife in the act. Neely was arrested on Sunday morning by Port St. Lucie, Florida police officers.

It was reported by WPBF that the boy is an exchange student who was living with Neely and her husband when the incident occurred. There is a second exchange student living with the couple right now as well. Neely teaches at the Community Christian Academy and it is not known if she ever taught the boy.

The administrative director for the school, Norma Hammond, told the TCPalm, “Community Christian Academy is aware of a legal situation involving a teacher and we are cooperating with law enforcement officials who are dealing with this as an ongoing investigation. For that reason we have no further comment at this time. We will be issuing a more detailed statement after meeting with school board and church leadership.”

According to police, the boy drove Neely towards the St. Lucie West Centennial High School, which is less than a half mile from Neely’s home, and parked. The two got into the back seat to have sex, which is when Neely’s husband arrived and caught the two in the act.

Neely is blaming the incident on a ‘midlife crisis’ and that the boy continued to ask for sex and thought maybe he would stop if she obliged his requests. The boy informed police that he and Neely had sex before, sometimes in Neely’s home. Neely is out on $15,000 bail.

Police spokesman Master Sgt. Frank Sabol, said, “A teacher who does this breaches the public trust, shows a complete lack of ethics and good judgment and has no appreciation of appropriate boundaries.”
