John McAfee, Founder of McAfee Antivirus, On the Run in Belize

John McAfee, who sold his McAfee antivirus software company for $100 million and went off to have a fine time, is rumored to have descended into BATH salts in Belize and, today, is trying to hide from a murder investigation of his neighbor, American expat Gregory Faull.

According to Wired, John has informed the website that he is on the run because he is convinced the Belize police would kill him if they find him. He has also communicated to Wired that he is innocent.

Apparently, of recent, McAfee had become close to people suspected of dealing in drugs. He used to live on Belize in a heavily fenced compound with groups of guards and dogs patrolling his territory. McAfee had told Wired that a few days back, all of his dogs had been poisoned, apparently by the authorities of Belize, and that the President of Belize doesn’t like him.

McAfee told Wired that when the police came searching over his neighbor’s death, McAfee saw them coming, and hid by burying himself in the sand with a cardboard box over his head so that he could breathe.

Pretty normal behavior.

According to Wired McAfee believes that someone killed his neighbor by mistake instead of killing him: “Asked what he knows about the shooting, McAfee said, ‘Nothing – other than I heard he had been shot … I thought maybe they were coming for me. They mistook him for me. They got the wrong house … He’s dead. They killed him. It spooked me out.’”

Though no one has yet been charged in the murder, McAfee is on the run and Belize police are searching for him.

On Sunday, Nov. 11, 52-year-old Faull was found dead with a gunshot wound at the back of his head. Police found a Luger brand 9mm expanded shell at the murder spot. Joshua Davis, writing on Wired observed while “I was interviewing him over the summer, I observed 9mm Luger ammunition sitting on his dining room table.”

However, the Belize police maintains McAfee is a person of interest and wanted for helping in the investigation. There is yet no search warrant issued for him, though a search for him is on, with the police combing his property.
