Dean of Wayne State University Law School Stepping Down

According to the Herald Online, the dean of the Wayne State University Law School will not be seeking reappointment for another five-year term. Robert Ackerman will begin teaching full-time at the law school beginning in the fall 2013 semester. Ackerman also asked that an acting dean begin administrative duties immediately because of undisclosed personal reasons. Ackerman will step down from the position on November 28, 2012, which is the final day of law classes for the semester.

Ackerman has been the dean of the law school since May of 2008 and teaches classes in torts and dispute resolution.

“It has been an honor to serve as Wayne Law’s dean for the past several years,” Ackerman said. “We have become a leader in clinical education, public interest and civil rights law, and international law. Exciting programs are under way in business and entrepreneurship. I look forward to joining the ranks of our full-time faculty and spending more time with our wonderful students.”

The acting dean will be John Rothchild, who is currently the associate dean and associate professor of law. He will serve as acting dean until an interim dean can be named for the law school. Rothchild has been a member of the law school’s faculty since 2001.
