Vaginal Tombstone Etching

Milan Marinkovic, a resident of Belgrade, Serbia, honored his wife, Milena, who died three years ago, with a tombstone etching of her private parts.  Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe.

Milena left a personal request for Marinkovic to engage a stonemason to engrave a replica of her sex organ for public display to ensure he never looked at another woman, according to The Sun.

According to the Austrian Times, the wife wrote in a letter:  “I don’t want you chasing other women. This way you will always remember me.”  Serbia is a country located at the crossroads of Central and Southeast Europe.  Some news commentators wonder how she would feel about men seeing her private parts in public display.

Marinkovic’s wife left detailed instructions, including photos, of her private parts to make sure there was complete accuracy.  Marinkovic had a difficult time finding a stonecutter who would take on the job.

Belgrade is the financial centre of Serbia.  Many notable companies are based in Belgrade, including Jat Airways, Telekom Srbija, Telenor Serbia, Delta Holding, and Elektroprivreda Srbije. Stocks are traded at the Belgrade Stock Exchange. According to examinder.com, Marinkovic said:  “The problem wasn’t finding the money but finding an artist who would do it.”  Most of the stonecutters told Marinkovic the request was blasphemous.

Despite the rejections, Marinkovic, age 72, found a mason willing to do the tombstone assignment.  The woman’s private parts are on display at the cemetery.  According to the Austrian Times, Marinkovic reported:  “Now it’s finished I love it and it’s a really good likeness.”  He said:  “And this way, a part of her will always be with me.”  It seems the tombstone helped Marinkovic deal with his loss of Milena and healed his suffering in some way.

Some commentators see the request as endearing or romantic, while others think it is outrageous or crazy.  For a dying woman who does not want to be forgotten, the request might be important regardless of its impact on her husband, the world, and womanhood.  Some wonder if a man made a similar request, if the result be the same.

Belgrade historic areas and buildings are the city’s top attractions. These areas include Skadarlija, the National Museum, Zemun, Terazije, Students’ Square, Nikola Pašić Square, Knez Mihailova Street, the Parliament, the Church of Saint Sava, and the Old Palace.  Milena’s tombstone may soon become a tourist attraction.
