Graduates from Columbia Law Rank 1st in the Country for Jobs

The most recent grad-school rankings from the Princeton Review show that Columbia Law School was able to help its graduates acquire a job within nine months of graduating at a 99 percent rate. This percentage puts Columbia at the top of the list for schools getting their graduates jobs.

The 450 legal graduates who left Columbia Law School in 2011 earn a median salary of $160,000. To take that into perspective, tuition for one year at Columbia comes in at $51,000. In 2011, Columbia was ranked third in the “Best Career Prospects” list and did not rank in the top ten in 2010. Now, the school hits that list at number one.

“It’s a great showing that Columbia has focused on this very practical outcome for their students,” Rob Franek said, according to The New York Post. Franek is the senior Vice President and publisher for the Princeton Review. “[Students] are there because they’re making sure they get a job in their field when they graduate.”

Landing on the list in the number five spot was New York University’s School of Law in Greenwich Village. The school was able to help its graduates acquire a job within nine months of graduation at a rate of 96 percent. The graduates from the law school earn a median salary of $145,000. Just two years ago the school hit the list at number three.

Tuition to attend the law school at NYU comes in at $49,000 per year. The tuition was listed as seventh most liberal in the country and the school was named 10th best quality of life in the country.

The CUNY School of Law, located in Queens, made the “Best Professors” list at number 10 in the Princeton Review. The school lost to Duke University School of Law, with their professors being named the best in the country. Students who attend Baylor Law School were named the most competitive in the country.

The most liberal students in the country come from Northeastern’s School of Law in Boston and the country’s most conservative students can be found at Ave Maria in Michigan.

All of these rankings can be found in the 2013 editions of “Best 168 Law Schools” and “Best 296 Business Schools” from the Princeton Review.

Taking a quick look at the business schools, Stanford University came in at number one for finding its graduates jobs. Their percentage rate was 92 percent and it comes within three months of its students graduating. The median salary for Stanford business graduates is $127,000.
