Wisconsin GOP Candidate’s Son Comments on Obama

The son of Wisconsin GOP Senate candidate Tommy Thompson, Jason Thompson, offered his thoughts on the race for the White House on Sunday morning. His comments were caught on video, which was posted to YouTube and can be seen in this post.

The comments were made at a brunch for the Republican Party of Kenosha County. Thompson said that “we have the opportunity” to send President Barack Obama “back to Chicago — or Kenya.” His comments resulted in applause from those in attendance at the brunch. One woman in attendance chirped in with the following comment: “we are taking donations for that Kenya trip.”

Another speaker at the brunch, Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus, said that “we have an opportunity to save America” if the country elects Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

It was reported by the Shorewood, Wisconsin Patch site that Tommy Thompson did not attend the brunch and that he had not watched the video either.

An email sent to BuzzFeed by the Thompson campaign said: “The Governor has addressed this with his son, just like any father would do. Jason Thompson said something he should not have, and he apologizes.”

According to the Shorewood Patch, the director of communications for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, Graeme Zielinski, said: “These tactics have no place in our politics and we hope Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and Reince Preibus will disavow these comments immediately.”
