New Survey Reveals Top Law School in U.S.

Professionals were recently surveyed by Business Insider regarding which law schools they consider to be the best in the country. The results found that Harvard Law School was considered the top law school in the United States. Of the respondents, 60 percent of them hold J.D.s and 69 percent had experience in hiring. There were 650 respondents, of which 36 percent work in legal fields and six percent are law students right now.

According to 40 percent of those who responded, law school is not worth the investment if the student does not attend a top-tier school. Business Insider found that 32.9 percent feel that there are other factors such as the cost of attending school, financial background, the school’s alumni association, the brand of law, practicing in state where you go to school and personal connections.

“If you want to work at a large firm or company in a large city, then a top tier school is more important,” one respondent to the survey said, according to Business Insider. “If you want to be a lawyer in a mid-size city or smaller, then attending a top tier school is not as important.”

Those who responded to the survey said that it is very important to think about where the student wants to practice when it comes time to deciding on a school. “Someone practicing in Portland, Maine is better off going to UMaine Law as opposed to Harvard for the very fact that that network is more beneficial in Maine,” a survey respondent wrote.
