Forensic Tests Results Released in George Zimmerman Case

According to data released from forensic tests, the only DNA identified on the hand grip of the gun used to shot Trayvon Martin belonged to George Zimmerman. The results found rule out that Martin’s DNA was on the grip of the gun. Zimmerman’s DNA was found on the holster for the gun as well. The forensic tests could not determine if Martin’s DNA was found on the gun’s holster. The report was released by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder in the case for shooting Martin back in February. Martin died of the gunshot wounds in the gated community in Sanford. Zimmerman has pled not guilty because of self-defense. The defense lawyers in the case could use the DNA reports from the gun grip and the holster in the case.

According to Zimmerman, he claims that Martin was on top of him and was slamming his head to the ground. Zimmerman also said that Martin smothered his mouth and nose with his hand and arm. This is when Zimmerman pulled his gun from his holster and shot Martin in his chest once. Martin was on his way home after he purchased Skittles at a convenience store when he was shot. An interview with the store clerk was released this week as well.

“To be honest, I don’t even remember that day,” said the clerk in the interview, which took place a month after the incident.
