Usher and Shakira to be the New Judges on “The Voice”

On Monday, NBC announced that Colombian singer Shakira and R&B star Usher would replace Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green in the fourth season of the singing contest “The Voice,” in next year.

According to the network, changes in the judge’s panel in the contest will provide both Aguilera and Green the time they need to move on with their careers with new projects. In November, Aguilera would be releasing a new album and would be on its tour, while Green is working on a comedy series for NBC. The Judge-mentors Adam Levine and Blake Shelton would remain in season four of “The Voice.”

NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement, “Doing two back-to-back cycles of this show requires a tremendous amount of time, and we are happy to accommodate the commitments made by Christina and Cee Lo.”

The announcement by NBC follows an announcement made on Sunday that rapper Nicki Minaj and country star Keith Urban are joining a rival singing contest “American Idol” run by Fox TV. Apparently, Mariah Carey has also signed up as judge on “American Idol.”

Usher is one of the world’s best selling singers with seven Grammy awards and global sales of 65 million records. He is famous for his “Confessions” made in 2004. That Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie” is a proved phenomenon.

NBC’s “The Voice” has been one of its most popular shows since its debut in 2011, and from now on would be held twice a year.
