Taliban Threatens to Capture or Kill Prince Harry

On Monday, the Taliban said that it would do its best to either kidnap or assassinate Prince Harry while he is on his tour of duty in Afghanistan. Prince Harry arrived in the Helmand province four days ago.

‘We are using all our strength to get rid of him, either by killing or kidnapping,’ Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said. ‘We have informed our commanders in Helmand to do whatever they can to eliminate him.’

Prince Harry is 27 and is the third in line for the throne. In the military, he is known as Captain Harry Wales and first had a tour of duty in 2008 working as an on-ground air controller. He had his tour come to an end when a news blackout stopped. The news blackout was supposed to keep him safe while fighting on the front lines.

The threat on Prince Harry’s life in Afghanistan was described as less severe by the Ministry of Defence when he is in a helicopter. Prince Harry joined the Apache unit that has the highest ‘kill rate’ in the war. He is staying at Camp Bastion for four months. He will be working as a co-pilot gunner while on his tour of duty. He is a member of the 662 Squadron, 3 Regiment Army Air Corps.
