Jerry Sandusky Maintains Innocence

According to attorney Joe Amendola, Jerry Sandusky still claims his is innocent and his family is still supporting him. “Dottie is still 100 percent supportive of him,” Amendola said of Sandusky’s wife. Sandusky is still in the Centre County Correctional Facility waiting to be sentenced on the 45 counts he was convicted of that include indecent assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, corruption of minors and unlawful contact with minors. Sandusky was convicted back on June 22 and was told that sentencing would come 90 days later.

Amendola told the media that Sandusky’s children are still supporting him and that Dottie is planning to live in State College despite her husband being sentenced to life in prison. Amendola also said that he has not been told when the hearing for sentencing will be scheduled and he said he would not be shocked it is scheduled for sometime in October.

Right now, Sandusky is working on appealing the conviction while also preparing for the sentencing hearing. He is in isolation in jail and was not able to see the football game played by Penn State against Ohio on Saturday.

“He’s in relatively good spirits considering his situation,” Amendola said.

Amendola would like a new trial, claiming that the defense did not have enough time to sift through all of the discovery items and the sheer number of victims in the case. The trial was delayed only for a couple of weeks, which did not permit the defense as much time as it needed.

“I will never understand the swiftness of which this case was pushed to trial,” Amendola said. Sandusky is prepared to issue a statement during his sentencing hearing, which could be used against him if he appeals. There will be 10 days following the sentencing that Sandusky has to file any post-sentence motions. The judge has four months to rule on the post-sentence motions and if no ruling is made, the defense has 30 days to appeal the decision with the state Superior Court.
