Gabrielle Giffords Recites Pledge of Allegiance at DNC

Not much can be kept a secret these days because of all the social media platforms available to us. So, it does not come as a surprise that a secret from the Democratic National Convention was revealed before the scheduled appearance. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, from Arizona, was supposed to surprise the crowd but it had been leaked earlier that she would be leading the Pledge of Allegiance on Thursday night.

Giffords name was not published on the convention schedule but wound up appearing on the stage with Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Schultz and Giffords are close friends and Schultz is the chairwoman of the DNC this year. When Giffords was shot in the Tucson attack she suffered impairment to her mobility and speech. Schultz helped lead Giffords on stage so she could recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

While on stage, Giffords smiled continuously and the crowd recited the Pledge of Allegiance with her. Upon completion, the audience started cheering ‘Gabby, Gabby!’ while others cried. As she walked off the stage, Giffords waved to the crowd. Giffords left Congress in January so she could spend most of her time on physical therapy. Giffords recently created a political action committee, Gabby PAC, telling the world that she is not leaving politics completely.
