Democrats Suffer Through Embarrassing Vote at DNC

The Democratic Party suffered through an incredibly embarrassing moment on Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention. The party has been experiencing criticism lately for its omission of ‘God’ in the party’s platform and for removing language from their 2008 platform that named Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. It has been reported that President Barack Obama did have to get involved in the issue to strengthen the language used in the platform.

The chairman of the DNC, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, needed to hold a vote of the delegates at the DNC. During the vote it seemed as if those opposed to the change in language were more boisterous than those in favor of the change. The vote turned awkward very quickly as the mayor had to request the vote three times. After asking for the vote the second time, the mayor turned to look behind him to seek guidance from a staffer.

When the vote was taken a third time, the no’s sounded as if they were louder than the aye’s once again. Despite this, the mayor determined that he heard two-thirds majority in favor of the change. When he made this announcement the crowd booed loudly. The video of the vote was posted on YouTube not long after by staffers from the Republican National Committee. The video was also making its way around Twitter.
