Britney Can’t Convince Her Psychiatrist or Judge to End Her Conservatorship

Britney Spears has been on a dual conservatorship for 4 1/2 years, and despite trying to lift it, hasn’t been able to convince the judge. The documents filed last Tuesday she insisted the judge seal. Lawyers called the records “highly sensitive,” and could cause “irreparable harm and immediate danger” if they weren’t sealed. They regard her mental illness.

Despite Britney’s shyness on the manner, the rumors opine that she is bipolar with a cocaine addiction. Whatever the case, the 30-year-old mother of two feels compromised by one half of her conservatorship. This arrangement reduces her agency to that of a child’s; the business aspect of her conservatorship goes to her father, who makes important choices for her regarding business arrangements and contracts. The personal conservatorship, however, which puts the ultimate approval or veto on her life choices outside of her own hands, goes to Jason Trawick, her fiancé, which she finds highly compromising. Such decisions as where to live and what to purchase are ultimately just as out of her control as if she were a minor. It is this aspect, and not the business aspect, of her conservatorship that she resents.

Radar Online quotes an anonymous source regarding this: “Britney told Judge Reva Goetz in her chambers with her court appointed attorney, Sam Ingham, present, that she is ready for the conservatorship to end. Britney said she doesn’t understand why it’s still in place and expressed her belief that she has got to be the only person under a conservatorship that has managed to land a $15 million work contract. Britney wants the conservatorship to end, it’s fine with her if it stays in place as far as her business and professional life, but she wants to call the shots when it comes to her personal life. Britney pointed out to the judge that she will be on live television weekly this fall once ‘X Factor’ premiers on Fox in September and the tremendous progress she has made since the conservatorship was put in place almost four years ago.”

“Britney’s team of doctors just don’t feel that she is ready for the conservatorship to end. They have specific concerns related to her mental health and aren’t ready to tell the judge that Britney is ready to go it alone just yet. Judge Goetz is the only person that can end the conservatorship.”

It is of course difficult to determine from the outside how sound Judge Goetz’s decision is, given that the relevant records are being sealed for privacy. Though it is known that Britney has been involuntarily hospitalized for psychiatric problems, and that she has sought treatment for substance abuse, the details of it all are of course a matter of her personal privacy.
