HLS 12–Day 1

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a good weekend, I sure am! I’m here in Boston for the Healthy Living Summit and really enjoying it! Friday afternoon my flight got in around 3pm and I headed over to our hotel, the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge. I met my roomies after registering and grabbed all my swag!

We got Reebok shoes (!!!!!) and a big bag full of tons of goodies. A bunch had gluten so I set those out for my roommates to go ahead and take what they wanted, but had plenty left! Haha not sure how I’m going to pack all of this…

My roommates for the weekend are Tessa, Julia and Rachel! We went for a walk along the river to kill some time before the cocktail party and hung out in the room for a bit eating snacks. When it was time for the cocktail party we headed down! It was hosted by Reebotalizer and had some hors d’oeuvres and we each got a drink ticket for a drink. I was actually surprised, the only free drink was water! Haha good thing I like water.

I was actually surprised at how many bloggers were there that I DIDN’T recognize! I barely recognized anyone, although as more and more people showed up I started seeing girls I knew, like Sarah, Chelcie and Clare!

They also had a photo booth, which was a blast! I actually can’t ever remember doing a photo booth so this was fun!

We ended the evening around 10pm, headed upstairs and chatted a bit and then crashed! 4 am wake up call 2 days in a row = exhausted Katie!

Saturday morning several girls went out on runs and I had a 16 miler on the docket. However, my knees were so sore from the hike and my legs were still hurting from being burnt, I decided I needed the extra sleep and skipped out on the running! We headed down to breakfast at 8am, which was hosted by Wild Harvest.

Later in the morning we had a crossfit workout. Reebok gave shoes to all the attendees (!!!!) so we were all outfitted and ready to go.

There were some representatives from Crossfit Boston there to teach us how to properly squat. Let’s just say that I’ve been doing squats very wrong… It was pretty fun although I was a bit disappointed in how short it was. Granted, they couldn’t have us do much since there were so many of us in a small space. It was great to talk to them afterwards, I’ve been wanting to try crossfit but it’s expensive plus the fact I’ve heard it’s hard to do crossfit and distance running. They told me there’s something called crossfit endurance, so I’m going to look into it!

After crossfit we had a couple morning sessions, I went to two sessions: Blog Photog Basics with Gretchen Powell, author of Honey, I Shrunk the Gretchen! and then Blogging with Brands, which was a panel led by Lauren Podolsky. To see all the bloggers and brands involved check out the HLS site on the panel here. The photography sessions was interesting but not as good for me since I use my iPhone… Although I did find out about an app called Camera+ that I’m going to check out! The branding one was really interesting because I haven’t done much work with brands.

Then it was time for lunch! Lunch was great, especially since everything was gluten free! Even the naan, which I was ridiculously pumped about!

Aaaaand I’m going to leave you there because I’ve got to get my butt over to the 5K run walk this morning!

Have you ever tried crossfit?

Have you ever been to a conference of any kind before?

Kathryn Wheeler: My name is Katie and I moved to Chicago in 2010 for law school and graduated in May 2013. I'm originally from Kansas City, MO and I did my undergrad at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. I started this blog in August of 2011 because I needed a creative outlet and I wanted to write about my life in a way that other women could relate to and realize that they aren’t alone in many aspects of their lives.
