Stevie Wonder Files for Divorce

It was reported on Friday that musician Stevie Wonder had filed for divorce from his wife of 11 years. Wonder, in the divorce documents, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce. The documents also state that Wonder has been separated from his wife, Kai Millard Morris, since October of 2009.

The documents were signed by Wonder using two fingerprints and they were filed under his legal name, which is Stevland Morris. The documents were filed by Laura Wasser and they request joint custody of their two boys, one aged 10 and one aged 7. Wonder also agrees to pay both child and spousal support in the divorce documents.  The documents do not say how the assets of the couple will be split. Wonder acquired most of his wealth well before he married Kai in 2001.

The divorce papers were filed by the 62-year-old Wonder in Los Angeles Superior Court. His wife Kai works as a fashion designer. This will be the second divorce for Wonder, who was married to Syreeta Wright from 1970 to 1972. Law dictates that any property earned during a marriage is to be split 50-50. This will come into effect when determining if the couple planned to reunite after their separation. If they did not plan to reunite, then whatever was earned by them individually will not be included in the divorce.
