John McCain Responds to Dick Cheney’s Sarah Palin Comments

As we reported on Monday, former Vice President Dick Cheney said that the choice of Sarah Palin as running mate by Senator John McCain in the 2008 election was the wrong choice. Now, McCain, a Republican senator in Arizona, has fired back at Cheney for his comments about Palin. McCain went as far as to discuss the duo’s argument regarding torture during the administration of Bush.

“I’m always glad to get comments four years later. Look, I respect the vice president,” McCain said while making an appearance on ‘Fox & Friends’ late Monday. “He and I had strong disagreements as to whether we should torture people or not. I don’t think we should have.”

McCain, as a prisoner of war during Vietnam, was tortured and objected to the detainee policy used by the Bush administration. McCain even created an amendment to the budget of the Defense Department that would prevent torture being used by U.S. personnel. Bush threatened that he would veto the amendment but it passed Congress and then was signed by the president.

“I’m proud of Sarah Palin,” McCain said. Liz Cheney, Dick Cheney’s daughter, tweeted the following, “Rarely do I disagree with best VP ever but @SarahPalinUSA more qualified than Obama and Biden combined. Huge respect 4 all she’s done 4 GOP.”
