Lady Gaga Sued by Bratz Dolls Manufacturers

Bratz Dolls has sued Lady Gaga and her team for breach of contract. On Wednesday, the maker of the dolls was denied by a judge in New York requesting that the pop singer authorize production of the dolls. The dolls are made by MGA Entertainment Inc. and the company filed the order on Tuesday. It claims that the company signed a deal with Bravado International that paid $1 million in advance. Bravado International is the company representing the entertainment and merchandise for Lady Gaga. The contract was signed to manufacture a doll that would have the likeness of Lady Gaga.

MGA said that the reluctance of Gaga to approve the final designs of the doll is preventing millions of dollars in revenue from the fall shopping season. The company also claims that the reluctance from Gaga is preventing orders from 10 countries from being filled. The company is asking for over $10 million in damages in the breach of contract lawsuit. The dolls were going to have the extreme costumes used by Gaga as well as the ability play segments of her music.

The court documents feature an email from Bobby Campbell, who is an executive with Atom Factory, the management company of Lady Gaga. The email says that “she loves them and we only need to make a few tweaks as we get into sculpting.” The email then asks for a ‘supermodel’ facial structure. “Think a prettier version of [Lady] Gaga.”  The email also asks for heads that can be removed from the dolls. “We would like to see options with and without a bloody stump for comparison.”

The lawsuit from MGA claims that the representatives for the singer have been uncooperative with the plan for the dolls as she embarked on a world tour. The claim also said that Lady Gaga wants to refrain from releasing the dolls until her next album is released sometime in 2013. Bravado said that the claims are “meritless and we will vigorously defend ourselves in court.” A hearing is scheduled for August 29 that will determine whether or not to authorize the production of the Lady Gaga dolls.
