Former Miss Nevada Suing Sheriff’s Deputies

Sheriff’s deputies for Los Angeles County are being sued by a former Miss Nevada for entering her apartment without a search warrant. The lawsuit claims that the deputies kicked down her apartment door, pointed guns at the woman and her fiancé and then watched her as she exited bed naked.

The lawsuit was filed by Caleche Ranae Manos against both Los Angeles County and the sheriff’s office. According to the lawsuit, on the night of November 15, 2011, Manos was forced to exit her bed naked. She also said that one of the officers in the apartment joked that Manos would “have a story to tell others at Thanksgiving.”

The lawsuit has been filed because the deputies entered the wrong apartment. Manos was Miss Nevada in 2007 and lives in the apartment with her fiancé, Eric Otto Ryder. The couple claims that the deputies were supposed to enter apartment ‘C’ with a search warrant but instead entered their apartment ‘A,’ which they say is very clearly marked.

“At that time Ms. Manos was still in bed and was naked,” the lawsuit said. “The sheriff deputies, all of which were male and armed with guns, ordered Ms. Manos to get out of bed and then watched as she attempted to do so.”

According to the lawsuit, the deputies spent a “significant amount of time” in the couple’s apartment before they found out that they made an error. Manos is looking for damages for false imprisonment, negligence, Constitution violations, civil rights violations and she is also accusing the officers of sexual harassment.
