Justin Bieber Sued for Hearing Loss by Concert-Goer

Justin Bieber had a lawsuit filed against him by a woman from Oregon who claims that she suffered hearing damage from the shrieking fans of his at one of his concerts. The lawsuit was filed on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Oregon by Stacey Wilson Betts. Betts claims that she was at the July 14, 2010 concert held by Bieber at the Rose Quarter in Portland with her daughter.

Betts claims that she suffered the injury when Bieber “climbed into a heart-shaped, aluminum/steel gondola and was pulled out over the crowd.” The lawsuit goes on to say that Bieber “enticed the crowd into a frenzy of screams by continuously waving his arms in a quick and upward motion.”

According to Betts, “the gondola that Justin Bieber was suspended in acted as a sound conductor, creating a sound blast that permanently damaged both of my ears.”

Betts said that she now suffers “hearing loss, severe tinnitus and hyperacusis (an oversensitivity to certain frequency ranges of sound) in both ears.” The lawsuit also names the record label Island Def Jam, Bieber’s record label, along with concert promoter AEG Worldwide and Vulcan Sports and Entertainment. Vulcan Sports and Entertainment owns the Rose Quarter. Betts is asking for $9,230,000 in damages along with attorneys’ fees and court costs.
