Apple to Unveil New Software and New Macs

The CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, will reveal new iPhone software, updated Mac computers and issue more information about future releases of Mac software when he opens Apple’s annual conference for software developers today. On Friday, banners were visible at the Moscone conference center in San Francisco that announced the new software for the iPod Touch, the iPhone and the iPad; iOS 6.

What the public does not know yet is what the new features will be with the iOS 6 or what its release date to consumers will be. Typically, Apple releases the new software close to the time when a new iPhone is scheduled to be released. It is expected that the newest iPhone, iPhone 5, will be released this coming fall.

Many experts believe that there will be modest additions to the software this year. Some feel that Facebook will offer a tighter integration, which would make posting status updates through the Apple app much easier to do. The functions for Facebook could be baked into the app much like Apple did with Twitter in the software update last year. In February, Apple showed many of the new features of OS X 10.8 ‘Mountain Lion,’ which goes on sale late this summer. The software can be downloaded by developers. The software reportedly makes Mac computers operate more like iPhones.

It is also expected that Cook will be announcing new Mac models, which have not had a major update in over a year. There are also rumors that Apple wants to produce a TV that has iTunes integrated in it and goes beyond its current product known as ‘Apple TV,’ which is a small box that plays movies from iTunes when it is hooked up to a TV. The late founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, told his biographer, Walter Isaacson, that his goal was to reinvent the television.
