It has been reported that 19-year-old Miley Cyrus is engaged to ‘Hunger Games’ star Liam Hemsworth. The couple has been dating for three years and the engagement was confirmed by both of their representatives. Hemsworth is 22 and no wedding date has been set yet.
“I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,” Cyrus said.
The couple first met when they shared credit in 2009 in ‘The Last Song.’ It has been reported that Hemsworth proposed back on May 31 with a 3.5-carat diamond ring with a gold band. Julie Jordan, from People, told TODAY on Wednesday, “It’s kind of sweet, because they shared Miley’s first on-screen kiss together. They’ve been together since she was 16. They have a very playful relationship. Very real. Very honest. I think Miley has obviously gotten a good dose of what fame and fortune is like, and now with Liam coming into his own…. She’s very excited about his success, and I think they’re going to be good for each other. They’re definitely going to keep each other balanced.”
Kate Coyne, from People, told TODAY that the Cyrus family is thrilled for Miley. “They are thrilled about it. Liam has been a part of their family for a while now; he’s been around. He’s not just somebody who showed up out of the woodwork.”
At the end of March, rumors were running rampant that the couple was engaged when Cyrus was spotted wearing a ring. She shot down those rumors with the following Tweet: “I’m not engaged. I’ve worn this same ring on this finger since November! People just wanna find something to (talk) about! It’s a topaz people!”
