Holla From KCMO!

Happy Friday everyone! I’m enjoying my time here in Kansas City and loving how slow things are moving – no more “go, go, go!”

One exciting thing that happened? My mother let me use a power tool!

Yes, this is my uniform so far since I’ve been home… let’s not laugh at my post-jazzercise hair.

I’m pretty sure my mom was having a min panic attack the whole time I was using it, and kept asking if I was done. Haha, I’m guessing we’re both a bit controlling. She handled it well though.

Look at my amazing skills:

Don’t worry, I only did the back of the bushes, where you can’t see them from the street…

Another new thing I’ve tried recently is Sol Sunflower Beverage! The lovely people at Sol sent me a sample in this gorgeous box! Haha I feel like I should do something with the box, it seems like such a shame to recycle!

SoL Sunflower Beverage is a Vitamin-E rich nondairy beverage made from 100 percent U.S. grown sunflower kernels. Delicious on its own or in recipes, SoL is vegan, naturally free of gluten and the eight most common food allergens – including soy, dairy, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts. It’s perfect for people with food allergies/sensitivities, gluten-free diets, low carb/low sugar regimens, and other special dietary needs.

It delivers powerful cancer fighting antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that promote heart and brain health, strengthen bones and teeth, and help maintain beautiful, younger looking skin in addition to folic acid, which enhances prenatal health.

Here are the nutrition facts on the Original that was sent to me:

I’ve been using the sunflower milk in about a million ways since I’ve gotten home. I used it to make Mama Pea’s Millet and Corn Pudding:

Put it with cereal (gluten free rice crispies!):

And mostly I’ve been putting it in coffee!

I’m used to drinking unsweetened milk, so I’ve been enjoying the sweetness of it. I was afraid I wouldn’t like the original as much as my unsweetened vanilla almond milk, but I actually really enjoyed the taste!

Taste-wise, Sol gets two thumbs up from me! Although I would love to try out their unsweetened as well, so I might be looking for that in grocery stores when I get home. There isn’t much protein in any flavor (1g) but then again there isn’t much in the almond or flax milk that I use either. I definitely enjoyed Sol Sunflower Beverage, but would probably stick to my unsweetened Flax milk for most things where taste doesn’t matter as much (like putting it in smoothies and oatmeal) and use sol or almond milk for things like coffee.

What kinds of milk have you tried other than regular cow’s milk?

Are you a fan of using power tools around the house?
