The lead single of Marz’s album – “I Won’t Give Up,” went platinum after selling more than a million copies since its release in January, 2012. The album of beach inspired love songs sold 102000 copies in its first week.
“California 37” by the pop rockers Train debuted at No. 4 with 75, 000 copies, while Future, the new rapper debuted at No. 8 with his first album “Pluto” selling 41,000 copies.
“Overexposed” from California’s Maroon 5 with “Payphone” sung by rapper Wiz Khalifa had more than 493,000 downloads in its first week, the best-ever digital sales for a band song. Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” was pushed down to second slot.
The third slot was occupied by “We Are Young” from Fun’s Janelle Monae.
“Boyfriend” by Justin Bieber and “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen held the No 4 and 5 spots respectively for single digital tracks.
It’s a really respectable feat by Ritchie, given his age and the tough competition from outstanding new-generation musicians. It goes to show that the American public appreciates what is good regardless of generation.
